April 2012 Meeting

Hi all,

First and foremost, my apologies for not holding a meeting sooner this semester. But we'll hopefully make that up to you guys the rest of the semester.

This week's meeting, we'll be talking a little bit about Google's Summer of Code, and hopefully convincing you guys to apply to work on some projects this summer. For those who don't know, Google's Summer of Code is a chance to get paid over the summer to contribute on an established open source project. I'll talk a little bit about the types of organizations and projects available and some tips on how to succeed in being selected for a project from mentors from past years and this coming summer.

If you're interested in Summer of Code, I encourage you to get a jump start and look through some materials at Google's site this week. The deadline for student applications is Friday, so let's not leave it to the last minute. Come to the meeting with some questions, or maybe come share your application and let us critique and let the group give you feedback.

There will of course be free pizza as always.
